Philippines: Background: The Philippine Islands became a Spanish colony during the 16th century; they were ceded to the US in 1898 following the Spanish-American War. In 1935 the Philippines became a self-governing commonwealth. In 1942 the islands fell under Japanese occupation during WWII, and US forces and Filipinos fought together during 1944-45 to regain control. On 4 July 1946 the Philippines attained their independence. Geography: The Philippine archipelago is made up of 7,107 islands; favorably located in relation to many of Southeast Asia's main water bodies: the South China Sea, Philippine Sea, Sulu Sea, Celebes Sea, and Luzon Strait. Land size: 298,170 sq km (slightly larger than Arizona). Climate: Tropical marine; northeast monsoon (November to April); southwest monsoon (May to October). Terraine: Mostly mountains with narrow to extensive coastal lowlands. Natural resources: Timber, petroleum, nickel, cobalt, silver, gold, salt, copper. People: Population: 86,241,697 (July 2004 est.). Ethnic groups: Christian Malay 91.5%, Muslim Malay 4%, Chinese 1.5%, other 3%. Religion: Roman Catholic 83%, Protestant 9%, Muslim 5%, Buddhist and other 3%. Official languages: Filipino (based on Tagalog) and English; eight major dialects - Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocan, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango, and Pangasinense. Economy: Agricultural products: Rice, coconuts, corn, sugarcane, bananas, pineapples, mangoes, pork, eggs, beef, fish. Leadership Training / Conferences: Pastor Danden Sales hosts a yearly leadership conference every April in Bais City, as well as conducting other leadership conferences and training seminars throughout the Philippine Islands throughout the year. |

Gospel Boat: Crusader's for Christ gospel boat which God provided to this outreach Pastor Sales to carry his team to thousand of islanders. Some small islands don't have a single blade of grass, but are completely filled with houses. |

Evangelistic Meetings: Pastor Sales and his evangelism team go out to any place ... islands, mountain villages, jails, and school campuses. Pastor Sales regularly holds evangelistic meetings. This is the most effective way of forming new congregations. Thousands of people have heard the gospel and been saved through these outreaches. During the meetings, Pastor Sales challenges people to accept Christ as their personal Saviour by raising their hands and coming forward for prayer. After that, the evangelistic team members minister to everyone and give them a gospel tract to read, and then invite them to a home Bible study. After 10 consecutive meetings, they are given a free Bible. |

Literature Distribution: Faith Island Mission is working with Bible Literature International and Cook Communications Ministries International by providing literature to help those people who cannot afford to buy a Bible or New Testament. Their partnership has been a bridge of blessing to thousands of people in the Philippines. Also, area pastors receive literature supplies from Faith Island Mission to help their people who do not yet have a Bible. |

Church Construction: Faith Island Mission is involved in ongoing church construction. With $ 1500. U.S. Faith Island Mission can put up a concrete church building in the Philippines. |

Bible School: Faith Island Mission's Bible school is involved in ongoing training of people called into ministry. There is a great need for food and other supplies for the students, as most of them depend solely on their parent's blessings. It costs about $ 25. U.S. to sponsor a student for a month. |

Community Impact: Pastor Sales has a friend and brother in the Lord who is newly re-elected as a town Mayor. He spoke to him about making an opportunity to share the gospel to all department heads at the municipal Hall, and conduct Bible studies. One day the mayor invited all the department heads and chiefs of every village in the neighbouring towns to come to his office for a Bible study. Pastor Sales ministered and all of them accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. Each one of them received a free Bible. Since that time, every Monday morning and Friday afternoon during their flag raising and lowering ceremonies at their town hall, all the personnel are required to attend a prayer time around the flag. In Bais City, the Mayor has taken down all of the graven images and instead placed a giant large print Bible on a small altar at City Hall. |
